What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework Cerritos Elementary School uses to promote school safety and good behavior. With PBIS, Cerritos teaches students about behavior expectations and strategies. The focus of PBIS is prevention, NOT punishment. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a systemic approach to teaching and managing behavior in schools. The goal is to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to create and maintain positive school environments so all students can achieve academically and socially.
Cerritos Elementary School is a learning community devoted to making an environment that supports high academic and social success by being Respectful, Responsible, and making the Right choices in all we do. Under PBIS, Cerritos seeks to consistently implement policies and procedures that emphasize proactive, instructive, and restorative approaches to student behavior. We apply PBIS practices throughout the school in both classroom and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, cafeteria/lunch area, restrooms, library, playground, and auditorium). In this way, all staff have an important role in helping students achieve outcomes by choosing more effective, efficient, and desirable behaviors.
PBIS Store
Students who are following Schoolwide Expectations inside and outside of the classroom will get rewarded with Paws for Praise. Students may purchase prizes and experiences at the PBIS store every two weeks. Students will complete an order form and staple tickets to their form to participate in the PBIS Store. Students will then bring their order form and tickets to the library, during their recess time on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month.
